Caracalla, 198-217. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 2.88 g, 12 h), Rome, 216. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM Laureate head of Caracalla to right. Rev. VENVS VICTRIX Venus standing front, head to left, holding helmet in her right hand, scepter in her left, and resting her left elbow on shield set on captive; at her feet to left, captive seated left. BMC 87-8. Cohen 613. RIC 312d. Rare with captives. Sharply struck and beautifully preserved, a splendid coin. Small flan crack, otherwise, virtually as struck.

From the Joseph Markowitz Collection (1897-1981), brought to Israel in 1949 and kept in the family ever since.
